Megan and Brad October 6, 2013

When you first hear about an outdoor wedding ceremony in October in Jackson, you immediately think I hope it doesn't snow!! So when I first met with Megan and Brad and started asking questions about any concerns they had about their upcoming wedding, I was relieved to hear that weather wasn't something they were stressed or worried about!! As long as it didn't pour down rain, this couple was tying the knot with smiles on their faces. Their goal was to have fun with their families and eat, drink and be married. The snow came just days earlier and on their wedding day Megan and Brad breathed a sigh of relief when the sun shone brightly and warmly on the lawn at Shooting Star!

As the wedding day started to come together, you could see all the personal touches Megan and Brad had put on their wedding. There were personalized glasses for the guests to use for drinks and to keep as a favor. Megan designed and put together the centerpieces, the bouquets and boutineers, aisle flowers, signage, table numbers and more. Everything looked so tasteful and creative. She was amazing DIY bride!! And an extra special touch was having their two dogs be part of the wedding!

The ceremony took place in the afternoon sun with the Tetons in the background looking down on them. Just as the sun went behind the mountains, guests put on their coats and enjoyed the view with a few cocktails and appetizers. Dinner, dancing and a good time followed. And let me elaborate on the dancing part of that. It was the first time I had heard of and got to see what is known as the "money dance"!! This is where male guests pay to dance briefly with the bride. The guests loved it and it was so much fun to watch!! This was one of those weddings where you could tell the bride and groom loved getting to celebrate and spend time with their closest friends and family and the guests were so happy to get to be part of such a special day.

This wedding was so much fun to be a part of. It was a beautiful day for two very amazing people who I was very lucky to get to know!! Thanks Megan and Brad for letting me be part of your big day!!

Corinne and JonAugust 3, 2013

It's not very often I get to work a wedding at one of the most private, secluded, homesteaded ranches in Jackson. But when the opportunity came to work with Corinne and Jon on their wedding at Lake Creek Ranch near Teton Village, I was very excited! I knew as soon as I spoke with Corinne that she was going to be a blast to work with. Little did I know that her family would be just as fun, funny and easy to work!

Getting married on her grandparents ranch was something Corinne had always dreamed about. Turning a working ranch in to a sophisticated, elegant wedding venue is not an easy task but between her, her dad and the ranch manager, the dusty cow field was leveled and make to look like a wedding venue. Check off that box. Now we have to make the tent fit perfectly in between 2 very pretty trees that frame the Tetons, keep the moles from digging holes in the dirt, and find the most ideal spot for the ceremony so that guests (and bride and groom) are not getting blasted by the hot afternoon sun.  No problem right? Right!! It came together beautifully. The tent framed the most gorgeous view of the Tetons, we refilled the mole holes with dirt right before the guests arrived, and when it came time for the ceremony to start, the sun was positioned perfectly behind the trees to give the guests a respite from the summer sun. We honestly could not have planned it any better. Now let the party begin!

After the ceremony, guests were invited to the tent for cocktails and appetizers. The tent was decorated with beautiful wildflowers and had a feel that was young, modern, worldly and chic. The tables had maps as centerpieces to signify all the travel the couple has done together. Once guests got some food and a drink, people walked around taking pictures on a nearby buckrail fence with the Tetons in the background. It looked like a scene from a famous western movie.  Then came the toasts which were very personal and heartfelt and ended with Jon inviting Corinne to the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife. Now it was party time. The music picked up and the guests took to the dance floor and the party continued well in to the night. What is a party without dessert you say? Well, to keep guests going, Corinne and Jon had a myriad of pies and coffee to offer everyone and they were a huge hit! The DJ's took over for the band around 10pm and the celebration continued.

Congratulations to Corinne and Jon!! Thank you for letting us to be part of your big day!

15 Years and A Road Trip Later- Anne and Dominic June 3, 2013

Lisa

Pratically highschool sweethearts, Anne and Dominic had been dating for almost 15 years when they finally said "I Will!"

View More: http://katygray.pass.us/vendors

After reading a letter Anne had written to Events, Etc. describing herself and Dominic and their background, I knew I wanted to be a part of their wedding as it had been years in the making!!

Anne and Dominic both love music which brought them on a trip to the deep south last year from the Smokey's to Kentucky and finally Nashville. They enjoyed this road trip so much that it made them want to come back for another road trip to experience the western part of the US. They started in San Francisco and traveled to Santa Barbara, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce National Park, and Death Valley all on their way to visit and exchange vows here in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks!! All their friends thought they would do it in Vegas so this was a successful attempt to fool inquiring minds!!

Anne and Dominic chose Mormon Row as the setting for their special ceremony and chose the Reverend Paul Hayden to conduct the ceremony. The ceremony was beautiful as it was only Anne, Dominic, Reverend Paul Hayden, photographer Katy Gray and myself. It was quiet, peaceful and just the right setting for this couple of 15 years. The reverend spoke of many things in the ceremony but the one that sticks in my mind most was of the 3 types of love necessary for a marriage to work. The first is Philia, the mental love. This type of love has give and take. It is a dispassionate virtuous love. It includes loyalty to friends, family, and community, and requires virtue, equality and familiarity. The second type is Eros, the physical, passionate love with sensual desire and longing. It is a romantic, pure emotion without the balance of logic. The third and most important type of love is Agape,  which means love in a spiritual sense. It often refers to a general affection or deeper sense of true unconditional love rather than the attraction suggested by "eros." This love is selfless; it gives and expects nothing in return.

These words brought tears to their eyes and mine while the Tetons looked on in awe. The couple said their I Will's as Katy and I stood as witnesses to this great moment in their lives, they kissed and it was official! 15 years and a road trip later, Anne and Dominic were married. After the ceremony, Anne and Dominic invited us to a picnic with sandwiches and lemonade to celebrate this special day in their lives. They told us of their travels, their family and Holland. After a few more pictures at Mormon Row they were off to dinner at Signal Mountain Lodge and to start their honeymoon! And all their friends thought they would do it in Vegas!!

It was an honor and privilege to get to be part of their wedding day!! Good luck to the happy couple and we hope to see you again someday! Happy Trails!!

Moose Head Ranch is unique. Unlike other guest ranches Moose Head Ranch is privately owned, family operated and completely surrounded by Grand Teton National Park, providing guests with a panoramic vista of the Teton Range. Imagine riding with your family and seeing elk, bison, mule deer and antelope up close. Picture meadows of alpine flowers such as lupine and fireweed as you gaze down at the legendary Snake River. At the end of each ride relax on your cabin porch or the Lodge deck with the ever changing vista of the majestic Tetons in the distance, with no blaring horns or city noises, just the sound of the babbling brook and the laughter of your children as they play with new found friends. Point out the Milky Way and track the numerous shooting stars seen crossing the evening sky. Bond with your children without the interfering sports schedules, meetings and social activities that crowd your family life back home. When was the last time you played cards or checkers with your kids? All of that and more is there for you at the ranch.

Did you know? Moose Head has a breath-taking wedding and special event site available during our off season (Prior to 6/5 and after 8/13). The owners hope you will consider them for your event and they will do all they can to make it memorable!

We Found Love and a Flash Mob

Quinn and AllenSeptember 29, 2012

Quinn and Allen met in Jackson, spent time traveling together, and decided to have their wedding in the beautiful town where Allen is from and where they live. It is always fun for us to work with local's on their big day!

quinn

They knew they wanted to show friends and family a great time while they were here. It started with a Welcome Party and Pub Crawl to some of the favorite watering holes in Jackson. Friday took guests on one of Jackson's favorite activities, floating the scenic Snake River followed by a wonderful dinner in town.

This was all an introduction to how fun and amazing their wedding on Saturday was going to be. The ceremony at Our Lady of the Mountain Church set the mood for the beautiful, rustic scenery that was to come. And after the ceremony, guests were off to the beautiful views of Spring Creek Ranch for the reception. One of the first things we asked Quinn was how she envisioned her wedding day and the key words were laid back, good time, dancing... And so it was!  The band really set the mood that is was going to be a great night of dancing.  A flash mob even showed up before the night was over dancing to We Found Love by Rihanna.

The wedding day was so amazing they extended the party until the next day with a "Recovery Brunch" for guests. The guests and bride and groom were still smiling. What an amazing weekend!!

A Family Occasion

Lindsey Nickel

Michelle and BillJune 29, 2012

Michell and Bill are quite possibly the photo next to the definition of handsome couple in the dictionary. From the second they arrived for their ceremony rehearsal all the vendors, staff at Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis and even myself kept commenting how handsome of a couple they are. They really are striking, the kind of classic and timeless beauty from a black and white movie.

The lovely couple

This was actually the second ceremony for the couple. In late April they got married in Florida with their closest friends (I think it was six people including themselves) in a picturesque beach ceremony. Then on June 29 they had a mountain ceremony with their closest friends and family, about 40 people plus the 16 children. It was truly a family occasion. There was a tent for the children by the pool so they could swim, play games, have their faces painted and enjoy the summer afternoon. The adults enjoyed cocktails and dinner on the covered deck at Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis with views of the Tetons. There was no dance floor. Instead there was live classical harp music playing in the background while everyone soaked up the unusually warm evening and crisp mountain air. The evening was more of a dinner party to celebrate with family and friends than a dance party.

View of the children's tent which had games and crafts.

The personal touch that really made this day special was the family portraits. Everyone was invited to have their portraits shot with the Tetons in the background. Then guests could go online at home to the photographer’s website to order their photos. A brilliant idea! Christmas card- done! Birthday portrait of grandchildren for Grandma- done!  Extended family portrait for hallway at home- done! A beautiful wedding day- done!

Turpin 2

At the gateway to both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, the historic Turpin Meadow Ranch sits at the very end of the Buffalo Valley Road, the edge of the most remote area in the lower 48. With the Buffalo Fork lapping at your cabin door, and unhindered views of the Teton range down the valley, Turpin Meadow Ranch is one of those unforgettable places.

Spend your days on horseback far above the valley, wade in some of the best fly fishing waters in the West, or simply relax. Reconnect with your family, as only a stay in the mountains can do. Turpin Meadow Ranch never ceases to inspire a sense of adventure and an appreciation for wild places in all of our guests, for both the young and the young at heart.

Turpin Meadow Ranch boasts twelve guest cabins of various size, which can accommodate up to 45 guests. They generally have only 30 guests at a time, allowing for a more intimate experience.

Turpin Meadow Ranch is open summer, fall and winter. They have summer activities from horseback riding, hiking, and fly-fishing to winter activities like nordic skiing and snowmobiling. You can also come visit in the fall which offers many of the same summer activities and hunting options!

Did you know?  Now under new ownership, all of the ranch buildings have been restored to their original beauty, while being updated with touches of contemporary comfort. In addition, they have added a bar, sauna, pool tables, wireless internet, and many other amenities that guests are sure to enjoy.

Nancy and Jason, July 21, 2012 Local. This wedding was all about appreciating everything that Jackson Hole has to offer. There was local food, local wildflowers, local strawberries on the cake, locally made chocolates for party favors and dancing to a local band all night long. Everything possible came from right here in the Tetons.  A wedding is the most memorable when the bride and groom take the time to add personal touches. Nancy and Jason did just that by having every ingredient, flower petal and music note come from as close to home as possible. It was literally a Tetons experience, and a memorable one at that.

Lisa and Jesse, July 7, 2012 People start to plan their weddings at various increments before the big day. It is rare for people to book vendors more than a year in advance. It is also rare for it to the first time in Jackson Hole for 99% of the people at the wedding. Both of these were the case with Lisa and Jesse's wedding.

In June 2011, I received an email from a gal in New York City who wanted to get married in Jackson Hole in 2012.  Her fiancé had visited Jackson Hole when he was 14 years old, they love outdoor activities wanted a destination wedding.  A week later we met on the phone for the preliminary meeting. To my surprise she already had a handful of her vendors booked and narrowed her venues down to two choices. She booked with Events, Etc. a few days later and we were in contact throughout the year until I met her on Monday, July 2, 2012. Little did I know back in June 2011 of the fun, excitement and celebration I was signing up for through the next year.

So for the next year I would check in with Lisa via email to see how her planning was coming. We had the standard three-month out meeting and final walk through when she arrived to town. She asked all the questions you ask if you were planning a wedding in a location you had never visited: How far is it from town to Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club? Can you recommend a photographer? Can you recommend a florist? Where is the best place to eat in town?

Lisa’s emails were always thorough. No detail was over looked. Her wedding day timeline was down to what happened at 5:10pm, she had photos of how to set up the décor, spreadsheets for what decor the florist would supply and what décor she would supply, a schedule for the week of the wedding and more. She went on Etsy to find decor to personalize the wedding and what she could not find online she made herself.  She was not being a micro-manager, instead she was being detail oriented and a planner- two things that make a bride wonderful to work with.

Finally the big day arrived, July 7, 2012. I arrived at Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club that morning and my assistant and I immediately got to work setting up all of Lisa’s Etsy and DIY décor. It was all very personal, thoughtful and tasteful. The items she made herself were professional looking.  All of the items were thoughtful and hand-picked, down to the lace from her mother’s veil wrapped around the stems in her bouquet.  The wedding day flowed perfectly in synch with the timelines, spreadsheets and photos Lisa created. It even rained after the party moved from the patio to the tent, as if she had planned it that way.

I pretty much always shed a few tears when my brides walk down the aisle. However it is rare for me to shed tears, during the toasts, first dance and mother-daughter dance (that is not a type-o, there was a touching dance with the mother and bride, a true testament to their bond). I don’t think I have ever had to try so hard to keep it together at a client’s wedding.

This wedding was truly not just a day of love, but love filled the whole day, down to every last detail.
