Pratically highschool sweethearts, Anne and Dominic had been dating for almost 15 years when they finally said "I Will!"

After reading a letter Anne had written to Events, Etc. describing herself and Dominic and their background, I knew I wanted to be a part of their wedding as it had been years in the making!!

Anne and Dominic both love music which brought them on a trip to the deep south last year from the Smokey's to Kentucky and finally Nashville. They enjoyed this road trip so much that it made them want to come back for another road trip to experience the western part of the US. They started in San Francisco and traveled to Santa Barbara, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce National Park, and Death Valley all on their way to visit and exchange vows here in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks!! All their friends thought they would do it in Vegas so this was a successful attempt to fool inquiring minds!!

Anne and Dominic chose Mormon Row as the setting for their special ceremony and chose the Reverend Paul Hayden to conduct the ceremony. The ceremony was beautiful as it was only Anne, Dominic, Reverend Paul Hayden, photographer Katy Gray and myself. It was quiet, peaceful and just the right setting for this couple of 15 years. The reverend spoke of many things in the ceremony but the one that sticks in my mind most was of the 3 types of love necessary for a marriage to work. The first is Philia, the mental love. This type of love has give and take. It is a dispassionate virtuous love. It includes loyalty to friends, family, and community, and requires virtue, equality and familiarity. The second type is Eros, the physical, passionate love with sensual desire and longing. It is a romantic, pure emotion without the balance of logic. The third and most important type of love is Agape,  which means love in a spiritual sense. It often refers to a general affection or deeper sense of true unconditional love rather than the attraction suggested by "eros." This love is selfless; it gives and expects nothing in return.

These words brought tears to their eyes and mine while the Tetons looked on in awe. The couple said their I Will's as Katy and I stood as witnesses to this great moment in their lives, they kissed and it was official! 15 years and a road trip later, Anne and Dominic were married. After the ceremony, Anne and Dominic invited us to a picnic with sandwiches and lemonade to celebrate this special day in their lives. They told us of their travels, their family and Holland. After a few more pictures at Mormon Row they were off to dinner at Signal Mountain Lodge and to start their honeymoon! And all their friends thought they would do it in Vegas!!

It was an honor and privilege to get to be part of their wedding day!! Good luck to the happy couple and we hope to see you again someday! Happy Trails!!

Reception Location- Moose Creek Ranch

Moose Creek Ranch provides a stunning and private setting for a wedding, nestled in the western flank of the Teton Mountain Range. The pond area just outside the Lodge is an idyllic location for the ceremony and reception.

If you’d prefer to have your reception indoors, the newly remodeled Lodge is spacious enough for 100 people and contains a full size catering kitchen. We also offer our historic barn for after dinner dancing.

Separate Bride and Groom dressing rooms, each with full size bath, spacious vanity with a seating area add to the list of amenities for wedding parties.

Did you know?  Moose Creek Ranch now offer 5 new large wall tents with queen size beds nestled along Moose Creek. Each tent has its own interior wood stove, an outdoor fire pit, shaded porch with reading chairs, and battery operated lanterns.

Wake up to the soft glow of sunlight. Cook breakfast on one of the designated firepits, head off for a trail ride or visit Grand Teton National Park, then return for sharing fireside stories with your friends and family. Finally, fall asleep on a cozy pillow to the sound of the creek. You may even hear an elk bugling in the Canyon.

The Best Way to Spend an Afternoon

Lindsey Nickel

cimg8607.jpg

It has been really hot the past few weeks, the kind of hot dry days that almost makes you forget that it can be -20F in the winter. The kind of heat that demands that you get out on the water. I love these days. A few weekends ago I started off with the plan of one of my go-to summer activities and discovered a whole new go-to activity. I am not sure how I first discovered that anyone can rent sea kayaks from the dock at Signal Mountain Lodge. However, every summer for the past few years I have gone with Boyfriend, local friends and visiting friends to enjoy a day on the lake paddling around. This is a go-to summer activity for me for two reasons.

1) Easy. The boats are waiting for you on the shore, no getting the kayak on the roof of the car, no rushing back to return it on time and no awkward carrying the boat to the shore.

2) Relaxing. Nothing says summer like the sun beating down on you while paddling along, with the Tetons in the background.

Of course I am quite hungry after paddling around so I head over to Leek's Pizzeria for the best calzone in Jackson Hole. P.S. The pizza is also the best. I discovered Leek's when I was working as a river rafting guide in Jackson Hole during college, but that is a whole other blog post. Anyway, It's just the best way to spend an afternoon...

Or so I thought it was the best way to spend an afternoon, until two friends from college came along with Boyfriend and me and together we rented a motorboat! We arrived with our snacks, cold drinks and sunscreen (local's tip: always bring sunscreen on your outings). We opted for the upgrade to a boat with a steering wheel and off we went. Who knew that so much exploring was possible outside the small kayaking bay? First we went to Moran Bay where we turned off the boat and enjoyed the sun at the base of Moran mountain. Since we still had not eaten lunch we opened our snacks of cherries, grapes and guacamole and salsa from Pica's. We lost track of time basking in the sun, chatting and snacking. I can't remember the last time I was so relaxed. Once we were full and feeling toasty from the sun we turned on the motor and explored the lake, scouted potential hikes and took turns driving. This was the first time I drove a motorboat and it was as fun as it looks. Time passed quickly and before we knew it it was time to head back to the marina and return the boat. A funny thing about lakes, it is surprisingly easy to get disoriented and we found ourselves in a little bay surrounded by greenery. With our views of the mountains and other boaters blocked it was quiet possibly the most peaceful place on the lake. Unfortunately, we had to return the boat before closing and could not stay to linger. We quickly returned the boat and of course ended our day with pizza at Leek's.
