Alexs & Tom's Gorgeous Summer Wedding at Jackson Hole

Lindsey Nickel

Alexs and Tom were introduced by mutual friends at a concert and instantly bonded over their love of country music. It didn’t take long for them to realize their relationship was something special, and we agree!

Tom’s grandfather built a cabin in Grand Teton National Park about sixty years ago, and his parents were married there thirty-five years ago. Tom spent many summers and holidays with his family at the cabin. They looked forward to visiting Jackson each summer on their annual vacation. From Tom’s family cabin, there is a perfect view of Rendezvous Mountain and about halfway through a hike down, Tom got down on one knee and they knew they had to have their wedding at Grand Teton National Park!

They chose Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club for its perfect backdrop. We loved that they chose natural blues and grays that mimicked the mountains. Alexs and her mom worked to create all the decorations, which were beautiful! Their wedding day itself was perfect with a celebration that was small and relaxed where guests enjoyed amazing views of the mountains, and soaked up the atmosphere. We loved all of their family and friends who were all so kind, and had a fantastic time working with them!

Claire and Simon's Fall Elopement at Jackson Hole

Lindsey Nickel

We love this adventurous couple from the UK! Simon and Claire met at university in Bath where they were both studying languages. They share a love of travel and learning about other cultures. Simon and Claire have visited every continent together and keep finding more places to explore! They both love nature and travel, and an outdoor wedding seemed ideal. However, you cannot get married outside in England and the weather is far from predictable!

After watching an episode of Modern Family where they go to a Dude Ranch, Claire and Simon decided they needed a backdrop just like it and their planning began. However, they did not know the area or anything about getting married in the US until they found us here at Lovely Day Events, and we're glad they did!

Despite a downpour in the night and a cloudy morning, the clouds lifted and created a pretty much perfect setting for their ceremony and the pictures after! We love the pops of red that make this wedding stand out!

Natalie and Brad's Classic and Timeless Wedding

Lindsey Nickel

Natalie and Brad will always stand out as a wedding we loved and will never forget. They are a very sweet couple who loves the outdoors and adventures. Skiing is one of their favorite activities. When they first started dating they would book ski trips on Friday to the newest snow for the weekend and off they went. The ski town of Jackson Hole was the perfect fit for their summer wedding and Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club was the perfect venue. The cloudy day didn't stop this wedding from being beautiful and tons of fun! From the arch, to the garlands, to the antler wedding logo, no detail was overlooked. Natalie and Brad recently welcomed a baby boy into their adventures as well!

Kim and Dom's Vibrant Wyoming Affair Featured on Borrowed & Blue!

Lindsey Nickel

Kim and Dom's June wedding had all the summer details that we love. They were married at Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club on a bluebird sky day with clear views of the Tetons behind them.

The bright blue pops of color in the water goblets, flowers and napkins made everything feel cheerful and celebratory. Many children attended (including the couple's two adorable sons) and they were thrilled with the kids' activity table, filled with coloring books and toys. A blue and white candy bar was a huge success for both young and adult guests. Everyone danced the night away with music provided by Jackson Hole DJ

Kelly & Shane’s Mountaintop Wedding Featured on Rocky Mountain Bride

Lindsey Nickel

We had sun, rain, hail, thunder and lightning on Kelly and Shane's wedding day making it extra memorable. Somehow this weather seemed fitting for a couple who loves adventures! Kelly and Shane met at a Crossfit gym in 2012 and from that day forward, it was obvious they were destined to be together.

Couloir Restaurant was the perfect venue for their special day with its amazing mountaintop views and delicious cuisine. Guests sipped huckleberry champagne as they rode up the gondola to the ceremony. A family member officiated the heartfelt wedding where there was not a dry eye in the house!

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails on the patio followed by a buffet dinner, speeches and dancing.  As always, Jackson Hole DJ brought down the house.

Erin and Garrison's Winter Wonderland Wedding at Spring Creek Ranch featured in Rocky Mountain Bride

Lindsey Nickel

Erin and Garrison's winter wonderland wedding at Spring Creek Ranch was nothing short of spectacular. We were delighted to be a part of this couple's snowy, romantic day and are pleased to announce their wedding has been featured in Rocky Mountain Bride's 2016 Wyoming Issue!

Some of the details of Erin and Garrison's wedding included the bride's beautiful boho chic dress by Rue De Seine. The dress was perfectly completed by a fur wrap which went along with their neutral color palette.

One of our favorite details of the day were the stunning flowers by Jackson Hole Flower Company which included a delicate floral crown for the bride made of champagne roses. Guests were seated at tables adorned with antlers and horseshoes, making for the perfect place settings.

The night ended with petit fours from Jackson Hole's own Atelier Ortega and dancing to the beat of local band Major Zephyr.

For more about this dreamy winter wedding, read about the details in RMB's 2016 Wyoming Issue.

What Does a Wedding Planner Do on the Wedding Day?

Lindsey Nickel

A common question that we get from brides and grooms-to-be is, "Why do you need to be at the wedding location for 12-16 hours, when my wedding and reception is only six hours long?" Fair enough, that might not seem to add up at first glance. The answer is it takes a lot of preparation to get the day ready for you and your guests. We arrive in the morning because it takes many hours to prepare and set up the ceremony and reception sites. Vendors start to arrive throughout the day and immediately look for the wedding planner because they have questions. Much of the job throughout the day is answering questions from vendors to ensure everyone is on the same page and handling last minute "surprises". No less than one hour before the ceremony begins, we want the ceremony site and dinner/dancing areas to be ready for the photographer, along with being fully prepared just in case any guests arrive early. Once ceremony time approaches we greet guests, get the ceremony happening, ensure a smooth reception and then clean up everything after the guests depart.  Our main job is to worry about your wedding so that you don't have to. Of course, we do this all with a smile!

150425-P-MOPOT-1797

Here is a  general timeline of the day:

  • 9:00 am - We (the wedding planner and assistant) arrive at the venue prior to other vendors. First we check in with a site contact to discuss any last minute changes and updates. We spend the next few hours setting up items provided by the client, handle last minute "surprises," oversee the rental delivery and set-up, answering questions from vendors, applying final touches to decor and tending to the bridal party. The list of responsibilities is really long and varies from wedding to wedding, but here are a few that are pretty common:
    • A storm is blowing in and everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) on the dinner tables is getting knocked over and blowing away. We run over with the catering staff and secure all the items.
    • The ceremony musician arrived and can't find the ceremony site, s/he calls for directions.
    • The groomsmen are covered in lint, this is no good for photos! We grab our lint roller and clean them up.
    • Two guests brought dates that you just found out about last night, yikes! We tell the caterer and make sure they have a seat at at table.
    • Someone must do the daunting task of pinning boutineers to the groom and groomsmen. We are pros at that! For some reason the wedding party and family are always terrified of this task.
    • Set up all the personal items that the client brought: table numbers, escort cards on welcome table, cute signs directing people around the venue, party favors at each seat, guest book, pen for guest book, basket for cards, family photos in frames (but the client forgot to take off the stickers from the front so we do that too) on the welcome table, place specialty drink signs on bars and more!
    • Answer a stream of questions via text, along with calls from the vendors to keep everyone on schedule and the event rolling smoothly. Do you see a theme yet? Being the point of contact for vendors and keep the day on schedule are large parts of our job.
  • 3:00 pm  - The ceremony and reception areas are set and ready for guest arrival and for your photographer to capture all those details you worked hard planning for the last year.
  • 3:30 pm - Guests start to arrive. We greet guests, assist with questions and check on the wedding party.
  • 4:00 pm - Ceremony - We invite guests to their seats, line up wedding party for their entrance, cue musicians and cue bridal party entrances. The bride goes down the aisle and we can finally take a deep breath and enjoy how beautiful this day is and how grateful we are to be a part of it.
  • 4:30 pm - Cocktail hour - Invite guests from ceremony to cocktails. Make sure that the wedding party and families have water during photos. Many guests ask where to find the bathroom and we point them in the right direction. We also collect the bridesmaids flowers and put them in vases, usually at the dessert/cake table, which saves you money on extra flowers.
  • 5:30 pm - Dinner - Time to eat! We invite guests into dinner area for dinner. This takes a while, because guests always go straight to the bar rather than their seat. Next, we line up the bridal party for the grand entrance and make sure the MC has the correct entrance order and name pronunciation. Finally, dinner starts to be served, and five guests find the wedding planner because they have food allergies that they did not mark on their RSVP cards. We find out what they can/can not eat and work with the caterer to make sure they are appropriately fed. Don't forget about the toasts! We make sure each of the toast givers knows when the toasts are happening and who they are going after.
  • 7:15 pm - Dance party - Let the fun begin! We coordinate first dance, father-daughter dance and mother-son dance. Later in the evening we cue the cake cutting , locate the toss bouquet for the bouquet toss and a chair for garter toss. These items are brought to the DJ so s/he doesn't have to run around locating the items. One person gets way too drunk and needs to go home early, we call the shuttle bus to come pick him/her up. While people are dancing we move the gifts and cards to a pre-determined location for going home at the end of the night.
  • 10:00 pm - Event ends - Time for your guests to go to the after party, but no one ever wants to leave. I call this herding the drunk cats. We get guests onto transportation or direct them to their cars or assist people in calling taxi cabs. There is no Uber in Jackson Hole and it is sparse in Sonoma+Napa late at night.  Clean up starts once all the guests have departed.
  • 10:30 pm - Vendors strike/clean up/break-down - We clean up the client's personal items and decor, supervise vendor clean up and make sure the the venue is looking as good as when we arrived.
  • 12:00 am - When the venue is cleaned up and everything is quiet, it is hard to believe that there was a huge dance party going on just three hours ago! Time to head home for a good night of sleep.

An Evening Under the Stars

Maddie and RileyJune 1, 2013

Within 15 minutes of meeting Maddie, I knew it was my sole mission to make sure that I figured out a way to get these beautiful star lanterns she had purchased hung for her wedding reception. I also learned that she was super organized and had an amazing vision for her wedding.

After their many travels (domestic and abroad), Maddie and Riley chose Jackson Hole as the location for their wedding and Shooting Star for its casual, rustic, relaxed atmosphere. It turned out to be the most beautiful spring day in the Tetons. The sky was blue, the sun was warm and the breeze was pleasant.

Maddie and her bridesmaids started their day getting ready at Frost Salon while Riley and his groomsmen got ready at his parents house. While getting ready, Maddie read a letter Riley wrote to her saying "I cannot put in to words how excited I am to see you." In return she wrote him a letter he read saying "I love you more deeply than I knew was possible." What an amazing and thoughtful way to start your wedding day!

The ceremony began with Maddie and her dad walking out of the beautiful doors of the Alpine Barn, being welcomed by friends, family and her husband to be. The I do's were said and Maddie and Riley went off to Snake River Ranch to capture the sunset and each other in all their glory. Meanwhile, guests enjoyed food and drinks out on the lawn looking at the beautiful Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Dinner and toasts ensued including a wonderful welcome speech from Riley and Maddie, a tear-jerker from Maddie's parents and a surprise slide show from Riley's brother and best man.

The night continued with dancing and a very special 65th wedding anniversary dance for Maddie's grandparents. It was beautiful!! The stars hanging from the ceiling twinkled as the night got darker and darker and the dancing began. It looked like a perfect night sky over the dance floor. You can't have a night under the stars without milk and cookies!!

And to finish it all off, guests sent them out in style to their mini cooper with sparklers. It was a sparkling end to a sparkling evening under the stars.

Diane and Mark February 22, 2014

This was my first winter wedding and they were calling for snow, snow and more snow! Now if you live here this is always a welcomed forecast, but if you are traveling here for a wedding, this can sometimes rattle your nerves. But that was not the case for Diane and Mark. They were unbelievably laid back and calm (even when the linen company forgot to send the special order linens!!). Easy-going is the one essential word I would use to describe them, and in love. They were so excited to get married that they knew everything else would fall in to place.

The wedding day came and the snow continued to fall. Guests could not believe how much snow we were getting.  They all came in brushing snow off their coats and smiling. The ceremony started and the when Diane walked down the aisle, I don't think I have seen a bigger smile that the one on Mark's face when he first saw her. After the ceremony ended, it was time to take some pictures in the snow! The photographer and I were very excited to see how the pictures were going to come out as snow can make things look very romantic!! After the pictures and a little alone time, the couple joined their guests and the party began. Dinner was served and shortly after the dancing started. The Diane and Mark originally thought guest would be ready to settle in for the night by 10pm but when 10pm rolled around, the guests wanted more. I asked the couple if they wanted to wrap it up or keep it going and they both said they wanted the guests to be happy so crank up the music!!

It was a beautiful day for a wonderful couple! Thank you Diane and Mark for letting me be part of your day!

Becci and VirgilJanuary 3, 2014

There is no better way to start a new year off than with a wedding. Becci and Virgil's wedding was simple, sweet, small and perfectly them. We are certainly in the age of technology because these two met on eHarmony. During our first meeting on the phone, Becci had many pieces of her planning up in the air and said she would be excited about anything since she was so excited to finally be marrying Virgil. There was one thing that was very clear in the meeting, she really loves Virgil. The day before the wedding we went around town finalizing the details with vendors. The next day was the big day and this is where you could see the planning that Becci had worked hard on the last few months: everyone wore stunning wedding attire. As I write this a few days after the wedding, I am dying to see the photos from Heather Erson Photography, but you don't have to wait and can see them below. The young boys wore the most amazing three-piece suits and hats. In my ten years living in Jackson Hole I can honestly say I have never seen more dapperly dressed five and seven-year olds. The 10-year-old daughter was not be out done. Her dress was clearly made for a princess and I am secretly hoping her coat  comes in adult sizes. The ceremony brought tears to everyone's eyes, including the children. This is where you could literally feel the love between Becci and Virgil.  At one point in the ceremony they each said a few words to each other and it was as if they were the only two people in the whole world. The ceremony ended with the two families becoming one with a unity candle. The beauty of having a small wedding in your own private room, is that your children can run around while you and your new spouse enjoy a private photo shoot outside. Thankfully the one guest, Nani, attended and kept her grandchildren entertained. I'm pretty sure the children enjoyed their private own rumpus room too. The evening ended with a short drive in a snow storm to the Rendezvous Bistro. It always amazes me how the private dining room can be transformed for any occasion. Floral Art did a magnificent job designing the flowers to fit the space and create the perfect wedding reception for Becci and Virgil.

Leah and BradSeptember 21, 2013

For those of you that don't know, I got married this summer, on September 7 to be exact. I was really hoping that my wedding would be the last wedding that I worked on for 2013 and I could just relax and enjoy being a newly wed after that. That all changed I met Leah and Brad in May. I meet with every potential client before they book and had every intention of sending Brad and Leah to work with Lisa (my fabulous co-worker). Well I changed my mind on that about 10 minutes into our meeting. I simply adored not just Leah and Brad, but their whole "team" (Leah's mom and sister) as I came to call them through the wedding planning. First off, they are funny, the kind of dry and sarcastic humor that I can't get enough of. While I was waiting to meet them for the first time Leah called and said "Hi it's Leah, sorry we are late. We canceled the wedding. (Long pause) Just kidding! We are almost at the coffee shop." At the first meeting, Leah and Brad made it very clear that they did not want their wedding to be too "wedding-ish," too structured, too conventional or too scheduled. Since Leah was getting married two weeks after me we formed a unique bond of planning at the same time. By the time her wedding day came I felt like a friend was getting married. Actually, I think Leah summed up our time together perfectly in a note she gave me just before the ceremony in this line "I feel like we were kindred brides and am so glad you came into my life at this moment." By the way, her not too wedding-ish wedding was so filled with personal touches, here are a few highlights: wore her mother's wedding dress, groom made granola for the party favors, same photographer as Leah's parents' wedding, Jewish chuppah (of course they made it) held by friends, scheduling the wedding to not start on time and mother-daugther dance.

DIY Projects and Epic Weather

Lindsey Nickel

untitled-2646.jpg

Mandy and ScottJuly 6, 2013

Brides (and in this case Mom) can  plan the music, make DIY projects, hand write escort cards, and more. However, try as they might they can not plan the weather. This was exactly the case with Mandy and Scott's Jackson Hole wedding. There are two things that I will always remember about this wedding: 1) all of the DIY decor 2) the epic thunder, lightning and hail.  Let's just say that Mandy and Mom planned every detail, moment and activity down to the personally labeled children's activities bags. Over the winter Mom sewed burlap curtains for the reception. So it was quite a disappointment to both of them when the rain started, then the hail, then the tent started to have a stream through it, then the vendors had to depart the tent because of the lightning overhead. Finally about 15 minutes after the ceremony was supposed to occur, there was a break in the weather. I quickly gathered all 110 guests out to the lawn as the rain started to drizzle. I must admit, I was worried that the clouds were going to open up again and pour on the ceremony- but it was important to Mandy to get married outside and it was now or get married in the tent. Thankfully, the drizzle passed as Mandy and Scott were saying "I do." The guests headed up to the tent, where everyone was in awe of all the decor. All the winter work of sewing, gluing and assembling paid off. The set up was tastefully western. The guests danced the night away until the were whisked away to the Cowboy Bar. As I always say "the only thing that is certain is that at the end of the day you will be married."

Fun, Carefree, Classic, Jackson Hole Wedding

Meredith wedding photo

Meredith and Patrick blended classic wedding elegance with Jackson Hole rustic-chic. Let's back up, I first met Meredith when she did ad sales for the local newspaper. We saw each other around town and said hi, but never seemed to do more than just cross paths here and there. I always thought of her as one of those people I see around town and would like to be friends with. Meredith is probably one of the most cheerful, easy going and fun people in Jackson Hole. Fast-forward to October 2012 and ski fitness class. For those who have never attended this ski training class, it is like P.E. class for adults. I am by no means a hard core skier, but I do not care for my legs to burn after one run. So every fall I sign up for this adult-torture style P.E. class. Meredith and I, along with 50 other people in Jackson, signed up for this class. I am not sure other people talked about how many tacos would be consumed after class, or which wine we would drink to help our muscles recover, but we sure did. I digress, back to the wedding. It was at ski fitness that Meredith and I got to know each other. After our bonding over our sore quads at class, I was extra excited when she asked me to be her "day of" wedding coordinator. Meredith and Patrick's wedding was as fun, carefree, classic and Jackson Hole as Meredith is. Thank you again for including Events, Etc. in your wedding!

Pratically highschool sweethearts, Anne and Dominic had been dating for almost 15 years when they finally said "I Will!"

After reading a letter Anne had written to Events, Etc. describing herself and Dominic and their background, I knew I wanted to be a part of their wedding as it had been years in the making!!

Anne and Dominic both love music which brought them on a trip to the deep south last year from the Smokey's to Kentucky and finally Nashville. They enjoyed this road trip so much that it made them want to come back for another road trip to experience the western part of the US. They started in San Francisco and traveled to Santa Barbara, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce National Park, and Death Valley all on their way to visit and exchange vows here in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks!! All their friends thought they would do it in Vegas so this was a successful attempt to fool inquiring minds!!

Anne and Dominic chose Mormon Row as the setting for their special ceremony and chose the Reverend Paul Hayden to conduct the ceremony. The ceremony was beautiful as it was only Anne, Dominic, Reverend Paul Hayden, photographer Katy Gray and myself. It was quiet, peaceful and just the right setting for this couple of 15 years. The reverend spoke of many things in the ceremony but the one that sticks in my mind most was of the 3 types of love necessary for a marriage to work. The first is Philia, the mental love. This type of love has give and take. It is a dispassionate virtuous love. It includes loyalty to friends, family, and community, and requires virtue, equality and familiarity. The second type is Eros, the physical, passionate love with sensual desire and longing. It is a romantic, pure emotion without the balance of logic. The third and most important type of love is Agape,  which means love in a spiritual sense. It often refers to a general affection or deeper sense of true unconditional love rather than the attraction suggested by "eros." This love is selfless; it gives and expects nothing in return.

These words brought tears to their eyes and mine while the Tetons looked on in awe. The couple said their I Will's as Katy and I stood as witnesses to this great moment in their lives, they kissed and it was official! 15 years and a road trip later, Anne and Dominic were married. After the ceremony, Anne and Dominic invited us to a picnic with sandwiches and lemonade to celebrate this special day in their lives. They told us of their travels, their family and Holland. After a few more pictures at Mormon Row they were off to dinner at Signal Mountain Lodge and to start their honeymoon! And all their friends thought they would do it in Vegas!!

It was an honor and privilege to get to be part of their wedding day!! Good luck to the happy couple and we hope to see you again someday! Happy Trails!!
