Ideas for Your Dreamy Winter Wedding

Guest post by Karlyn McKell

Winter weddings are especially romantic as they capture the magic of the snowy season and holiday spirit. It’s a great time of year to take advantage of frozen landscapes, gleaming fireplaces, and cozy touches.

The best part about the winter wedding season is that it’s the slowest, meaning you’ll likely have less venue competition and vendors will be more readily available. A wedding planner can help you pull together your look and guide you through any seasonal challenges such as weather delays, low temperatures, and more.

Here are some of our favorite ideas for your winter wedding celebration:

Offer cozy seating: It’s the season of comfort so try pulling in some comfortable vintage furniture and providing blankets for your guests to snuggle up.

Light up a campfire or fireplace: Keep guests warm with a campfire or burning fireplace. Access to these will depend on your venue, but if you’re allowed, we recommend adding a crackling fire into your winter wedding celebration to stay on theme and warm.

Set up an interactive food station: Consider setting up a seasonal food station such as a hot chocolate bar or apple cider bar.

Wear winter fashion: Take advantage of seasonal fashion such as a long-sleeve gown, faux fur coat, or jacket to keep you warm and stay on-trend.

Pick a seasonal color palette: Winter colors can be soft and frosty, or rich and luxe reds. You can also mix in metallics and brass with accents made of mercury glass or gold. Include your seasonal palette into your wedding invitations, decor, fashion, and more.

Holiday-inspired touches: If you are getting married before or during the holidays, consider adding in touches such as holiday music and garland. You can even display a Christmas tree in your venue. Have guests sign ornaments for a festive guest book you’ll never forget.

Embrace candlelight: Set the mood with elegant candlelight centerpieces. This will add some warmth and romance to your look while also softening your wedding environment.

Use seasonal flowers: While it may not be the most popular blooming season of the year, winter floral is beautiful in its own right. Pair greenery with beautiful pops of rich color with a bouquet that is both eco-friendly and in-season.
